Unions have been a part of education for decades and exist to support educators and professionals like yourself in advocating for better wages, benefits, and working conditions, which are our students’ learning conditions. By joining AFT 1521, you’re not just becoming a member—you’re becoming a part of a movement striving for justice, equity, and high-quality education for our students!
Take the first step by filling out the membership application. Your contribution can make a significant difference in the lives of our students, our community, and their futures.
The wages, benefits, and protections provided in your contract are the hard-fought victories resulting from our collective bargaining process, a series of negotiations in which a united and actively engaged membership allows us to win for faculty and students.
Union members earn better wages and benefits than workers who don’t have union representation. On average, union members earn 27% higher in wages than their non-union counterparts. Here at LACCD, a union helps us strengthen shared governance on our campuses and improve working relationships between faculty and administration.
If you have any questions regarding the status of your membership, please contact our Membership Coordinator, Reyna Gonzalez at rgonzalez@aft1521.org.
