Today’s Action and Voter Information October 10, 2024 Hi All,As you read this, I’m heading downtown to join some of our faculty, asking the Trustees to ensure the district keeps their promises in the contract we ratified last year – particularly around paying our adjuncts for their work and keeping our campuses clean and in working order. We’ve spent much of this semester working to finish contract implementation, and we will stay locked in on this as the year continues. We are fighting to ensure our students’ access to and success in education. Next Friday, we’re holding a Fix AB 1705 Symposium at Mission College, featuring some of our district’s faculty leaders in Math, English, and Counseling, students, and our FACCC President-elect Oranit Limmaneeprasert. As the next legislative session comes up, our Guild and community college faculty are united to Fix AB 1705. Please RSVP here so we can have enough food and seats – we’ll meet from 9:30-11:00 before commemorating Pat Allen at Valley College midday. As you know, we are in the middle of a critical election where AFT members are standing for leadership locally and nationally. Our student internship project has done remarkable work supporting student and faculty-friendly candidates across our region, and you can sign up to join them locally or join our fellow union members in Nevada and Arizona here! Our first local Faculty Power Friday is set for October 18 at 5! Please see our AFT and CFT interactive guide to voting and getting involved in the election below. As always, your unwavering dedication to our communities fills me with pride as I lead our Guild. I eagerly anticipate our collective efforts this semester and beyond, united in our commitment to our cause.Thank you, Chris Cofer, for putting together this list of AFT-endorsed Candidates below: Los Angeles Community College District Seat 1 Andra Hoffman Seat 3 David Vela Seat 5 Nichelle Henderson Seat 7 Kelsey lino Los Angeles City Council D2 Adrin Nazarian D14 Ysabel Jurado Los Angeles Unified School District District 3 Scott Schmerelson District 5 Karla Griego El Camino College Board of Trustees Area 4 Dr. Nyree Berry California State Senate SD 23 Kipp Mueller SD 27 Henry Stern SD 33 Lena Gonzalez SD 35 Michelle Chambers California Assembly AD 39 Juan Carrillo AD 40 Pilar Schiavo AD 41 John Harabedian AD 43 Celeste Rodriguez AD 44 Nick Schultz AD 46 Jesse Gabriel AD 49 Mike Fong AD 51 Rick Chavez Zbur AD 52 Jessica Caloza AD 54 Mark Gonzalez AD 55 Isaac Bryan AD 56 Lisa Calderon AD 57 Sade Elhawary AD 61 Tina McKinnor AD 62 Jose Solache AD 64 Blanca Pacheco AD 65 Mike Gipson AD 66 Al Muratsuchi AD 69 Josh Lowenthal U.S. Congress CD 27 George Whitesides CD 28 Judy Chu CD 29 Luz Rivas CD 30 Laura Friedman CD 34 Jimmy Gomez CD 35 Norma Torres CD 36 Ted Lieu CD 38 Linda Sanchez CD 42 Robert Garcia CD 43 Maxine Waters CFT – link to endorsements for your address, accessible by phone https://www.cft.yourvoter.guide/#/search https://www.cft.org/endorsements LA County Federation of Labor Additional endorsements from LA County Federation of Labor available @ https://thelafed.org/resource/la-fed-official-endorsement-guide-general-2024/ In Unity, A.
