I want to welcome everyone back as you prepare to attend tomorrow’s convocation. AFT 1521 is ready to get to work supporting our faculty and students. In addition to your local leadership, your Guild-wide Officers and staff will be on each campus to welcome you back and disseminate important information and opportunities. Your union is interested in what you think and is launching a district-wide survey of our members to elicit your opinions and how you may want to get involved in your union. Second, CFT will host its “Back to School” event at LA Trade Tech on September 4th at 3 p.m. CFT President Jeff Freitas and AFT President Randi Weingarten will welcome faculty and staff back to school and discuss local and state priorities. AFT 1521 matters, and we are proud that our state and national leadership recognizes us.

Lastly, we’re eagerly looking forward to our Campus Action Teams meeting on Wednesday, September 18th, at 5 p.m. This is a great opportunity to discuss district issues, including items yet to be implemented in our current contract and future actions.
