Student Scholarships Available – March 29th, 2023 March 29, 2023 Hi All, For today’s “Wednesday Win,” I want to highlight how the love and generosity of our members are helping our students win. Through the donations of members, we have created several student scholarships. I wanted to let you know what these AFT 5121 scholarships are and how your students can apply: AFT 1521 Foundation Scholarship The AFT 1521 Foundation Scholarship is an award of $1,000 given annually to current Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) students who, in addition to their academic achievement, have demonstrated a serious commitment to advocating the cause of social and economic justice on their campuses and in their communities. Ethel McClatchey Scholarship The Los Angeles College Faculty Guild AFT 1521 has established a $1000 scholarship in the name of Ethel McClatchey in recognition of her many years of service to the union. She has received both national and local recognition from the American Federation of Teachers and the Los Angeles Community College District for her union and professional activities. Hy Weintraub Scholarship The Los Angeles College Faculty Guild AFT 1521 has established a $1000 scholarship in recognition of Hy Weintraub’s dedication to the Union Movement for students that may share personal qualifications reflect this dedication. 2023 AFT 1521 Scholarship Available to students with at least 12 units be taken at a Los Angeles Community College with a minimum GPA of 3.0 for courses taken at the Los Angeles Community College District and currently attending a college in the Los Angeles Community College District as a student who has carried at least nine units per semester.
